Wanderlust Watch Review

Wanderlust Watch Review

I’m making a resurgence as an everyday watch wearer. Formerly, I had worn triathlon-suited watches on a near daily basis, but my smartphone, with it’s GPS and countless other features had almost rendered my timepieces obsolete.

Recently, I’ve been testing The Williamsburg watch from Wanderlust Watches, which has a black strap and a black face. Wanderlust Watches also come in 7 other designs and two pocket watch designs, which are currently on preorder.

Here are my thoughts on the watch:

Pros:
  • Versatile – you can dress it up or down, unisex
  • Minimalist design
  • Simple – not bogged down with overly complex features
  • Leather watch strap
  • Water resistant

With the hour numbers signified by silver notches, I will admit, I have mistaken the hour on a few occasions – but whatever – that’s when you whip out the iPhone. The design of this watch is what sets it apart. The black face makes it stand out from the crowd and gives it the ‘it’ factor.

In case you were wondering, this watch does make a ticking sound as the second hand moves. The noise is faint, but you’ll be able to hear it if you put the watch by your ear. I’ve found it a bit refreshing to be using a mechanical, analog device, rather than a complex sports watch.

As for durability – I’ve been wearing the watch almost every day for around a month and there haven’t been any scratches or pronounced blemishes. The only sign of wear is the watch band’s creasing. The watch’s lens is made of “hardened mineral crystal” according to the product description. I’m not entirely sure what that mineral is, but it hasn’t been scratched, although I’ve noticed it gets smudged rather easily.

Cons:
I haven’t come across any major issues with my Wanderlust Watch, however I’d love for it to be completely waterproof. At the moment, the watch is water resistant. You’ll be fine wearing it in a light rainstorm, or getting a splash of water on it, but wearing it in the shower is not recommended. As a traveler, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected, so making this watch waterproof would make the watch all the more travel-proof.

The Verdict:
Aptly named ‘The Williamsburg‘ after the Brooklyn neighborhood, this watch’s chic, minimalist and boutique vibe matches that of it’s namesake. The Williamsburg from Wanderlust Watches is beautifully designed and incredibly versatile – a piece any discerning travel-fashion aficionado will want on his or her wrist.

This watch is priced at $155 AUD, which converts to approximately $115 USD. While you’re at it, check out Wanderlust Watch’s other great designs.
